Critical Incident Stress Management and Officer Wellness

Description

This course provides an overview of Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) and practical approaches for supporting officers following traumatic or high-stress incidents. Participants will explore common stress reactions to critical events, warning signs that may indicate the need for additional support, and strategies for promoting officer wellness in the immediate and long term.

A guided incident debrief example is used to demonstrate how post-incident discussions can be conducted in a supportive, professional, and non-punitive manner. The course also addresses the role of leadership, peer support, and agency culture in reducing stigma and fostering resilience after critical incidents.

Designed for officers, supervisors, and peer support team members, this training offers practical insight into caring for personnel while maintaining operational readiness.
